The purpose of the Speaking Course and debating in Nexus Education is to complement the skills that students will acquire in their normal school education.
Typically, a cohort of students will develop speaking skills at a different pace. This will depend on a variety of factors, for example, inherent confidence, general academic performance, personality, home environment, peer group interaction and physical motor skills.
We will provide exercises that allow students to practice sound combination, word combination, initials, vowels, suffixes and move into practicing tenses and building sentences into complex ideas.
Fundamental to the course is building confidence. Our challenge, therefore, is to create an encouraging environment while challenging students to extend themselves. Students will produce a range of texts and activities: the dramatic, amusing, persuasive informative, discursive, and analytical. They will have to demonstrate understanding, produce speech that is fluent, clear and cohesive, progress from the concrete to the abstract and learn to meet the challenge of prepared and impromptu speaking.
Speaking is a social exercise. It should be associated with pleasure. Of course, the we do it, it would follow, the more pleasure we should gain from it. The better outcome, will be confident and skillful speakers.
